It's often said that if you don't study the past, you are bound to repeat it. I would agree. However, sometimes you have an experience and you think you've learned the lesson. I, on the other hand, sometimes have to have the lesson repeated.
So, this morning I was making pancakes for my 2 youngest before they ventured off to school. I used to always mix the batter by hand, but lately I have been using my hand mixer. So, I put the beaters into the mixer, hold the mixer against my chest with one hand while reaching to plug the mixer in with the other hand. Can you see where this is headed?
Well, I am in the process of plugging it in when the mixer, which was set at the highest level, starts spinning against my chest! Holy Cow - I was so startled and surprised!
Luckily, I wasn't hurt.
Now, this has happened before, and for a while I was very diligent about checking the settings before plugging in the mixer. Not today. Back to checking it again. Hopefully I will make it a permanent change, but knowing me that might not happen.
As a final thought, I would just like to say that I love my KitchenAid! This could never happen on my KitchenAid because that has a safety feature that I love: it won't start after being plugged in until it is on zero and then moved to where you want it. Love it!!

Baby details
So Wendy went to the Dr. earlier today. She was at a 3 and having regular contractions. I guess they thought the regular contractions weren't close enough so they sent her home! Craziness. So she came to my house and we were timing them. Earlier, the Dr. suggested that she take a bath to see if the contractions would continue or not. Wendy took a bath and they got closer after that. By the time they left for the hospital, they were 2-3 minutes apart! It was not intentional for them to leave when they were so close together, but the bath sped things up and there is construction where I live, which delayed Dan about 15 minutes.
Megan was breech so Wendy ended up having a c-section.
I got to talk to Wen tonight and she said:
Pictures should come soon!

Time Out For Women
I had a wonderful time and TOFW and loved the music and the talks. I feel that I have learned a lot and came away with ideas on how to improve. I think it was well worth going. I have Wayne to thank for this and am grateful that he's the best husband in the world!

Eyes of Potatoes
Ok, so I was reading an insert that came in the Sunday paper and there was a question about if it is ok to eat the eyes of a potato. Now, I never do because my Mom always cut them out, so I followed her example and always cut them out. (Incidentally, I talked to her about this, and she always cut them out because her mom always cut them out!! --- That's the power of example!!)
However, curiosity had me wondering...is it ok to eat them? It turns out that it is NOT ok to eat them. Marilyn vos Savant answered their question this way:
"No, you should avoid them. The "eyes" are just buds that will grow into potato plants, but they may contain too much solanine, a neurotoxin that occurs naturally in many plants. It can cause anything from nausea to paralysis. In severe cases, it even can be fatal.
"Most of the toxin is produced as a potato ages, is handled roughly or is exposed to light or temperature extremes. Potatoes that are old, spongy, or greenish anywhere - even under the skin - shouldn't be eaten. The green is chlorophyll, which is harmless, but the color is a sign that solanine is present. And the eyes have even more toxin at this time."
I found this fascinating and thought I would share. :)
